Happy October - It's officially Autumn! The outdoor concerts are (almost) gone and school's back in session. Listed here are more than almost 800 concerts, tours, lectures, readings, walks, plays, art openings, screenings, and a ton of festivals.

This month we observe Columbus Day (or Indigenous Peoples Day), Oktoberfest, Halloween, & LA's newest holiday, CicLAvia. Annual favorites include Art Night & Art Walk in Pasadena, the Brewery Art Walk, Taste Of Soul on Crenshaw, & the fascinating Archives Bazaar at USC. Santa Monica offers the COAST Open Streets Festival, the 20-event Santa Monica Eats! series at SMPL, & outdoor movies on the glorious pier. There's also Taste of Encino, Gardena 's Heritage Festival & Street Fair, Thunderfest in Covina, P-22 Week, Music Box Steps Day, & early Day of the Dead events. October ends with a bang at the biggest street festival of all, Halloween in West Hollywood.

There are several city-wide projects, with events at multiple venues - not all are spelled out in the list below. Worth a look: Glendale Tech Week (10/9-10/13) has dozens of demos, panels, & parties, many free ( https://glendaletechweek.com). LA Commons brings back the wonderful Festival of Neighborhoods on 10/21-10/22, with walking tours in all corners of the city; schedule not available at our press time (lacommons.org). Get creative with dozens of public events for The Big Draw LA (thebigdrawla.org) or at 36 venues in North Hollywood host Lit Crawl on 10/25 (litcrawlla.org). See also the Santa Ana Film Fiesta (some free screenings at masamedia.org); & Daniel Pearl World Music Days (danielpearlmusicdays.org). The huge Pacific Standard Time:LA/LA Latin American & Latino Art in LA has hundreds of events and dozens of exhibits. And don't forget the Great California Shakeout Drill on 1017 (shakeout.org/california).

As usual, everything listed is free & open to the public as far as I know. Please call ahead if you dislike surprises, & please note that RSVP means you must reserve a place. "Call to verify" means I couldn’t confirm the event. Some events that require museum admission are listed, because many of us have memberships in local museums.
