Hatian actress/model Sandy Jean Philippe (plus size model) promotes healthy living with the help of Hollywood fitness wonder Xango Henry founder of Xango Fitness –

by Eugenia Wright aka Kleopatra Girl

Pretty Haitian model and actress Sandy Jean Philippe became known to millions as the grand winner on the E! reality show Bank of Hollywood produced by Ryan Seacrest. Endowed with a voluptuous body and beautiful curves Sandy is proud of her zaftig physique and created a touring fashion show for plus size models entitled “Evolution of Curves.” However, she wants to make it clear that she does not promote obesity. Sandy has always been active as a dancer and doing her workouts at the gym. Recently she has veered away from her regiments and wanted to get back on track. She has always realized the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and getting her body in the best possible to reduce any health risks later on in years such as high blood pressure or diabetes that often affects those who are over-weight, especially in the African-American community. Sandy wants to be a role model for others and let them know that loving your body is important regardless of the size and that means exercising, eating right, thinking healthy thoughts and working at it mentally and physically, for life.

To this end, Sandy recently called upon fitness guru and film star Xango Henry to help her get red carpet ready for a September 1st event. Xango is a motivator and go-getter, just the right prescription for Sandy’s lull and so they set a workout date in the charming setting of Leimert Park in Los Angeles that boasts a huge cascading fountain. There in an atmosphere of gentle breezes, warm sun and lots of trees; Xango developed a workout geared toward targeting Sandy’s problem areas (stomach, thighs, waist).

Xango loves to utilize parks and beaches and natural environments to refreshen and awaken the senses and offer stimulating and creative fun exercises to tone, lose inches and strengthen stamina. Many Hollywood stars are checking in with this life coach as an alternative to boring gyms where the atmosphere is infused with salty sweat.

Xango lives and walks according to his prescription. One look at Xango and you can easily see that he practices what he preaches. Some have called him the “He-man” of fitness. But don’t let this tough as nuts and bolts image fool you, Xango has the patience of a saint and exudes a caring and nurturing nature with his clients.

Xango has amassed a list of film credits and he knows that his body is his instrument as an actor. In his films he has used a wide array of fitness modalities from martial arts to boxing to weight lifting. He has worked also as a stuntman. He knows how to use his body at maximum levels and trains hard each and every day.

On the day that he trained Sandy Jean Philippe one of his newer fitness clients, actress and video vixen Suzette Tomlinson stopped by the park and Xango created a workout plan just for Suzette. All of his routines are tailor-made for each client.

As I watched, it seemed like so much fun, not like exercising at all. The right instructor in a breath-taking environment does wonders for the soul… and body too. I may look into a class or two with Xango. Ahhhhh, I can see and feel the new me in the near future.

Xango just completed filming "Chained" a film with a similar story line to "The Defiant Ones" which starred Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis. In "Chained" Xango Henry recreates the Poitier role. Inorder to accomplish working in the hot California desert sun chained to another human being, Xango demonstrated his tough fitness stamina.

Essence of Leadership

John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader.” Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, Rickie Byars-Beckwith, John Bell and Dorothy Stoneman are leaders of the pack. John Bell and Dorothy Stoneman, husband and wife, have been inspiring, loving and changing lives for 40 years with their resilient organization, Youthbuild USA. Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith and wife, Rickie Byars-Beckwith continue to lead a powerful foundation which is Agape International Spiritual Center for over 23 years.
On Wednesday, July 28, 2010 these leaders met for the first time and it was indeed a gathering of love. John Bell and Dorothy Stoneman traveled to California from Boston, Mass. for Youthbuild USA's Transformation Institute. John and Dorothy are huge admires of Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith for his spiritual teachings and Rickie BB for her breathtaking music. On this very special day, Rev. Beckwith presented an exceptional announcement and acknowledgment of Dorothy Stoneman and John Bell. So profound that the whole Agape community stood to their feet and gave them a standing ovation. It was truly a remarkable moment in history. A moment of true leaders who live everyday to serve others to actually receive some of the same recognition that they continuously give 10 times fold. To see these leaders give that love and support humbly to each other cannot be explained in words.
How did this all come about, you may ask? The delightful individual who made it all happen is Brandy Sanders, Founder of The Kierrah Foundation. Brandy is a dear friend of Bea Sweet who is a graduate and facilitator for Youthbuild USA. Bea was responsible for a major collaboration of young people of a local Youthbuild and the Kierrah Foundation. The young people of CCEO Youthbuild of Gardena, CA provided assistance to Brandy for a benefit that would aid the young women of the Kierrah Foundation. Children Helping Children. Brandy is also a loyal member of the Agape family . When she found out that John and Dorothy would be coming to California and having knowledge of their life changing work, she knew it would be an ultimate gift of love to have the 4 of these dynamic souls meet. With Bea Sweet being the facilitator that she is and her love for what is called “the work” she and Brandy made it happen.

Rev, Beckwith delivered a powerful message at the service. The topic “If you don’t like where you live, then change your address!” The message gave insight on our thought process on how we viewed ourselves versus coming to the reality of the phenomenal beings we truly are. Rev. Michael said We should see ourselves through the same eyes that God sees us." Once we can embrace that, everything else will persist as it should. The energy of the night was indescribable however there was no question that there was …LOVE, ABUNDANCE, PROSPERITY, UNITY and SERVICE that embedded in our soul at this amazing service. We are all one! Thank you for allowing us to see the Essence of Leadership.
And So It is!!

Sweet Inspiration for Youthbuild Transformation

Imagine three (3) empowering days of unity, community, leadership and change all while convening with remarkable individuals and surrounded by a beautiful atmosphere. I know you are thinking stuff like this doesn’t happen especially in these tough economic times. Well actually, this is very much so a reality and took place at The Youthbuild Transformation Institute from July 27-30, 2010 at the lovely Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort located in Redondo Beach, CA .
According to the Youthbuild website the Transformation Institute is described as “The YouthBuild Academy holds several Transformation Institutes annually for directors, staff, teachers, counselors, policy-makers, and funders from the youth development, youth leadership, youth employment, after-school, and education arenas. Each Institute offers 10-12 multi-day training courses drawn from the Academy’s quality, field-tested menu on the website. Individualized fee-for-service trainings are also available to organizations.”
Bea Sweet, a key facilitator of the Transformation Institute and graduate of the Youthbuild Program, kicked it off with towering energy supported by up beat music and visuals provided by Josh Slobig & Ty Weems, A.K.A “Josh and Ty the AV Guys”, of A.T.S Audio and Visuals. The attendees of the institute were predominantly staff and students of the various Youthbuild programs from all across the United States. Everyone had their agenda in hand and at the end of the “kick-off” was eager to get the wealth of knowledge that was set out in the days ahead of them.

Bea Sweet is well known within the Youthbuild Community for her positively energetic spirit and her words of influence that she bestows upon whoever is there to receive. Bea is a walking testament of the significant impact that the Youthbuild Program can have on a young person’s life. She graduated from the program in 2000. Since, then she continues to giveback to the very community that has transformed her life.
Bea’s first workshop on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 was entitled “Open Space,” which consisted of the attendees presenting topics of discussions for the bigger group . The topics ranged from building the gaps between staff and students of Youthbuild Programs, What the staff would like to see implemented in their programs, What support systems can be in place among other topics. Bea initially explained the ground rules which included the Rule of Two Feet and Motion and Responsibility among other rules. Next there was the ice breaker of everyone getting in a circle as Ty kicked off the music and the group began dancing. They reconvened and began the process. Bea encouraged everyone to write the ideas down on a piece of paper, then place them on a wall that was set up with letters on top and time slots on the side. After the board on the wall was filled with ideas, everyone divided into groups according to the topic and time slots. This exercise took place for approximately 90 minutes. During this process the attendees where free to roam and some even took a break to do some yoga in the center of the room. It was indeed Open Space of growth with Bea guiding the way.
Bea Sweet lead a workshop entitled “Pathways of a Leader” for the students that attended the conference on Wednesday, July 28th and early part of Thursday ,July 29th. The goal of this workshop was to equip participants with a “tool box” of new skills that will enhance their leadership abilities and enable them to strengthen their leadership in their lives, programs, and community. Bea is a true leader in her craft. You can definitely see and feel the passion behind her work.
Some of the other workshops available at the T.I. were “The Mental Toughness Experince: Creating an Effective Youth Orientation Experience,” “ How to Develop YouthBuild Relationships Through Social Media,” “Love Rules: How to Help, Young People Develop Healthy Relationships,” “Cultural Competency: Working with Diversity and Not Against Difference,” “Stress for Success: 8 Practices for Enhancing Your Performance in a Stressed-Out World” and many others. Some of the additional dynamic facilitators include Lyle Grandson and Al Johnson from Respect for Life, Joel Miranda from Just a Start Youthbuild, John Bell Co-Founder and Vice President of Youthbuild, USA, Tamara Thompson of Mockingbird Education, Barbara Duffy of Partners for Community Solutions, Jennifer Lawrence of Northeast Parent Child and Society, Kerry Knodle of Rockford Youthbuild, Cecily Tyler, Michelle Quinn-Davidson and Jamie Ramola of Youthbuild USA .
At the end of the 3 days of these compelling workshops, everyone had the opportunity to give appreciation, discuss their experiences and what tools he/she will take away from the T.I. to transform their communities. Bea Sweet facilitated the process as she walked around the room handing each person that wanted to speak the microphone. After, there was much fun as gifts and prizes were raffled off by Michelle Quinn-Davidson, Director of The Academy of Transformation and Jamie Ramola, Associate Director of The Academy of Transformation and other YB staff members.

Special thanks to Dorothy Stoneman, Founder and President of Youthbuild USA, John Bell, Co-Founder and Vice President of Youthbuild USA, Michelle Quinn-Davidson, Academy of Transformation Director for YouthBuild USA, Jamie Ramola, Associate Director of the Academy of Transformation for Youthbuild, USA , Bea Sweet, Youthbuild USA Consultant, Liz Riley, Event Coordinator of the Academy of Transformation and the entire Youthbuild Staff.
